Things to do

Anyone staying at Au Chêne Vert may have the feeling of being at the end of the world, but nothing could be further from the truth. The villages of Saint Ciers sur Gironde and Mirambeau, located on respectively 5 and 8 km. from Au Chêne Vert offer large supermarkets, shops and even terraces, but you can also find a traditional butcher and baker there. Those who want bigger can go to Blaye or Jonzac, half an hour's drive from the campsite. In addition to shops, cafes and supermarkets, these historic towns also offer attractions. Large markets are held there, selling everything a person could need, from clothing and bedding to homemade jams and oysters in all shapes and sizes.

About 70 km away, the beautifully renovated center of Bordeaux, Cognac with its renowned cognac distilleries and the historic center of Saintes are certainly worth a visit. If you want to spend a day at the seaside, you can drive via the beautiful Route Verte to Mescher-sur-Gironde (45 km) or the seaside resort of Royan (60 km). On the way there you will pass Talmont-sur-Gironde: located on the Gironde, this old bastide with a special Romanesque church is one of France's 100 most beautiful villages.
